St. John Neumann Regional School will hold its Christmas musical "The First Christmas."

The show will take place in the sanctuary of Assumption BVM Catholic Church on Washington Street, Slatington, at 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Admission is free.Kindergarten through fifth grade students at St. John Neumann Regional school have been hard at work over the last two months preparing for their annual Christmas musical.This year's show was written by Teresa Jennings and Karl Hitzemann, and tells the story of the birth of Jesus through poetry style readings and music.The fourth and fifth grade students serve as the narrators for the program, and also perform in all of the musical numbers. The kindergarten through third grade students sing and act out the parts.The cast includes Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds, innkeepers, and stable animals galore.Kindergarten students are the "stars" of the show, and will be featured in "Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star."Other songs in the show include "Let us Tell the Story," "Journey to Bethlehem," "Away in a Manger," "Come to See the Newborn King" and "Hallelujah! He is Born!"The congregation will be asked to be a part of the show in singing "Joy to the World," and a candlelight version of "Silent Night."Costumes for the event were designed by the students and their parents.School Principal Sister Virginia Stephanie oversees the production, which is a collaborative effort of teachers Mr. Cressley, Mrs. Hodyl, Mrs. Comensky, Mrs. Kester, Mrs. Eckman, Miss York and Mrs. DeAngelo.
