At the monthly council meeting, Bowmanstown Borough Council passed ordinance 2015-01, which pertains to safety concerns and overweight vehicles traveling on White Street in the borough.

An excerpt of the ordinance reads, "The borough council of Bowmanstown borough has determined and hereby determines that the portion of White Street between Mill Street and the borough line, is subject to certain hazardous traffic condition and other safety factors that require permissible weight of motor vehicles or combinations be restricted to vehicles with a maximum weight of 20 tons."There are explicit exemptions for school buses, emergency vehicles, and vehicles making local deliveries or pickups within borough limits.In other matters, council announced that there would be a special meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 to finalize the borough budget and tax levy.While there has been much discussion over the past months regarding sudden changes in particular a committee, again this month questions were raised by a resident as to the reasoning for the abrupt change.Questions included were there improprieties, or was it done out of necessity or lack of action.Council President Kara Scott said there were no improprieties and, "It was decided to change the committee to assure things were moving forward."Council also unanimously approved a motion directing the borough solicitor to review a recent zoning hearing board variance approval.Council requested that the solicitor file a motion to appeal the action of the zoning hearing board to the Carbon County Court of Common Pleas.This request is in relation to a concern about utilities and the allowed variance adding an additional Equivalent Dwelling Unit or EDU.There are concerns about allowing the resident located at 327 Ore St. in the Borough adding an addition that would add an EDU to the property and not properly account for this in relation to the Borough Sewer and Water Ordinances.
