Eight families in southern Carbon County and northern Lehigh County had a better Thanksgiving through the effort of the R.W. Fritzinger VFW Post 7215 auxiliary in Walnutport.

President Karen Bandzi said they hear by word of mouth about people who can be helped. There are normally 12 families. They are not VFW members.Bandzi estimated they collected approximately $1,500 in food items through donations and purchases. This is the 12th year for the project.Hoffner Farm donated potatoes. Hams and turkeys were purchased; and pies were bought from Laurel and Faith Ohl; and this and last year's poppy queens, who were helping with a fundraiser for Dance With Kim.Some of the food boxes were delivered and some recipients came to the post and pick them up.
