Seven defendants entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court to driving under the influence and related counts.

The pleas were accepted by Judge Joseph J. Matika from the following:Geoffrey Andrew Casteel, 56, of Blakeslee, was arrested on July 31 along Route 903 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test showed 0.15 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve 10 days to two years in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension, render 75 hours of community service, and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.He will begin the jail term at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27 and serve it on consecutive weekends.George Fedor, 41, of Freeland, was arrested on Aug. 16 along Plane Street by Weatherly police. A test showed 0.14 BAC.A first offense for sentencing purposes, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, zero tolerance for D&A use and render 25 hours of community service.Benjamin J. Porambo, 34, of Summit Hill, was arrested on July 9 along Mill Road by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.22 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Jesse Franklin Snyder, 34, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 12 along Route 443 in Mahoning Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Rachael Nicole Smith, 28, of Palmerton, was arrested on Jan. 2 along Ashton Drive near Mall Lane in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Smith could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Frederick James Bobal, 23, of Nesquehoning, formerly of Beaver Meadows, was arrested on March 27 along Laurel Street by Weatherly police. A test showed 0.16 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Bobal could apply for the Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Gervase J. Purcell III, 55, of Blakeslee, was arrested on June 7 along Route 1003 by Kidder Township police. A test showed 0.17 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
