Voters cast ballots for councils and supervisors

There were only a few races Tuesday in the Times News coverage area for borough councils and township supervisors. Here are the results.

CoaldaleCoaldale had a race for four seats on council, four-year term, with five candidates. The winners were Claire Remington, 401; Yvonne Stoffey, 332; Michael J. Doerr, 286; and Thomas D. Keerans, 274. Odd man out was Vincent Miller Sr., 202. For a two-year term, Remington defeated Francis J. Hutta, 288-165. Remington will have to decide which term to take and then resign from the other one. The council or county court would then appoint a replacement.Schuylkill TownshipIn Schuylkill Township, Democrat Frank Fabrizio got 289 votes for supervisor. In a race for constable, Democrat Joe Yesavage defeated Republican John Zubris, 198 to 167. There were auditor positions up for election, four and six-year terms, with no candidates. There were eight write-ins for the four-year term and 10 for the six-year term.TamaquaThere were four seats on borough council to be elected with only four names on the ballot, all Republicans. Those elected and vote totals were Brian Connely, 663; R. Daniel Evans, 624; Thomas Cara, 599; and Ronald Bowman, 597.Charles T. Rodgers (R) got 734 unopposed votes for constable, six-year term, and Betsy Kline Melnick (R) 728 for auditor, six-year term.Rush TownshipA supervisors race was decided in the primary. On Tuesday incumbent Republican Robert Leibensperger got 619 votes. He had both nominations. There were no candidates for constable, six-year term, with 22 write-ins; auditor four-year term, 17 write-ins; and auditor six-year term, 18 write-ins.West Penn TownshipIn West Penn Township incumbent Republican supervisor Tony Prudenti got 654 votes. He had both nominations. Jack Sarge (R) got 634 votes for constable, six-year term, and there was no auditor, six-year term, candidate with 15 write-ins cast.Walker TownshipIncumbent Republicans William R. McMullen got 215 votes for 6-year term supervisor and incumbent Leonard Ostergaard got 225 votes for four-year term supervisor. There was no candidate for constable, with 11 write-in votes.New RinggoldIn New Ringgold Republican Elizabeth B. Fry got 41 votes for council, four-year term. There were two other seats on council up for election but no candidates. There were 34 write-in votes. There was also a constable position, six-year term, with no candidates but 11 write-in votes.Ryan TownshipNo races as Republicans had all the candidates for the positions open. Supervisor incumbent Clyde Champ Holman 391 votes for six-year term; Thomas Bux, constable, six-year term, 355; Timothy McGowan, auditor, two-year term, 353; Donna M. McGowan, auditor four-year term, 361; and Linda A. Fetter, auditor, six-year term, 381. Holman had both nominations.New PhiladelphiaThere were three council seats, four-year terms, up for election with only three candidates. The winners were Democrats Mary L. Shanoskie, 238, and Dennis A. Faust, 193; and Republican Debra A. Sullivan, 141. Democrat John Bondura got 269 votes for constable, six-year term.MiddleportThere were two seats up for election to borough council with Republican Elizabeth A. Borger getting 70 votes and Democrat Carol A. Oswald with 68 votes. Patricia Skripko, who ha both nominations, had 58 votes. There was no candidate for constable.McAdooThere were four seats on council, four-year terms, up for election with a total of eight candidates. The top four vote-getters were Democrats John De Balko, 283, and Marion De Balko, 256; and Republicans Mary Labert, 244, and William Slovik, 239. The four candidates finishing out of the running were Democrats Peter P. Minneci, 230, and Daniel A. Gallagher, 206; and Republicans Daniel Borchick, 180, and Edward J. Bielen Sr., 177. There was no candidate for constable with 11 write-in votes.Mahanoy CityThere were four seats on borough council, four-year terms, up for election with a total of six candidates. The winners were Robyn L. Sincavage, 541; Francis P. Burke, 539; Thomas R. Flamini, 451; and Diane Rachuck, 347. Finishing out of the running were John A. Pytko, 328, and Douglas Litwhiler, 209. Sincavage and Burke had both nominations while Flamini is a Democrat and Rachuck is a Republican. Pytko is a Democrat and Litwhiler is a Republican. For constable, six-year term, Democrat Larry Levy defeated Republican Douglas Litwhiler 339 to 312.Kline TownshipIn Kline Township there were no races. For supervisor, six-year term, Carmen Cara, both nominations, got 302 votes; constable, Republican John J. LaRose Sr., 298 votes; and auditor, six-year term, Bruce Yourechko Jr., both nominations, 313.Blythe TownshipIn a race for supervisor, six-year term, Democrat Adam J. Nothstein defeated Republican Cynthia Borchick, 134 to 93. Democrats Joseph J. Leskin Jr., constable six-year term, 162; and Keith Rokosky, auditor six-year term, 166.Delano TownshipNo races in Delano Township. Republican Ken Karlavage had 66 votes for supervisor, six-year term; and Michele Karlavage got 64 for auditor six-year term. There was no candidate for constable.Positions up for election but not filled Tuesday could be decided by write-in votes. Write-in votes will not be counted until Friday.
