Panther Valley and Hazleton area school boards had races Tuesday for school board seats while the other districts in the Times News area - Tamaqua, Mahanoy Area and Blue Mountain - did not.

Residents of Coaldale voted in the Panther Valley district where there were five seats, four-year terms, up for election with six candidates. Four of the six had both nominations.Panther ValleyIn the Coaldale voting, the candidates with both nods were the top vote-getters as follows: Wayne V. Gryzik, 357; Anthony Demarco, 329; Gary Porembo, 314; and Renee Demelfi, 300. In the race for the fifth seat, Joseph J. Faenza Jr. (D) defeated Michelle Markovich (R) with 270 to 203 in the borough.The Coaldale totals will be added to the voting results in Carbon County to determine the winners. Results in Carbon indicate Faenza won the fifth seat.HazletonVoters in McAdoo and Kline Township vote in the Hazleton Area School District. Tuesday there were nine candidates for five positions open, four-year term. However, five of the candidates had both nominations and they easily won Tuesday. The Schuylkill County vote totals for McAdoo and Kline: Vinnie Zola, 927; Tony Bonomo, 905; Marie Kay, 813; Robert Fiume, 810; and Jackie Scarcella, 808. Finishing out of the running were independents Robert Childs, 559; Lori Losen, 381; Thomas J. Chirico, 324; and no affiliation Casey Herseim, 270.The Schuylkill results will be added to the Luzerne County totals for determine the overall winners. Those results indicate that Zola, Bonomo, Kay, Fiume and Scarcella won the seats.Other districtsThe other three districts had no races. Following are the vote totals for the candidates.Tamaqua Area: Five seats, four-year terms, Wanda Y. Zuber, 2,377; Daniel E. Schoener, 2,237; Melanie I.S. Dillman, 2,144; Larry A. Wittig, 2,119; and Eileen A. Meiser, 2,105. Zuber, Schoener, Dillman and Wittig had both nominations.Blue Mountain: Five seats, four-year terms, Scott Reichert, 3,184; Mark B. Hoover, 3,015; Michelle Z. Vesay, 2,915; David Lafko, 2,884; and Mary Jo Moss, 2,847. All had both nominations.Mahanoy Area: Five seats, four-year terms, Gary R. Gnall, 1,333; Nancy Boyle, 1,296; Daniel Lynch, 1,218; Michael Mistishen, 1,192; and Nikki Stetson, 1,155. All had both nominations.
