Weissport addresses unregistered vehicles, trash hauler issues

Weissport Borough Council is still moving forward on improving the quality of life for residents.

At Monday night's borough council meeting, it was reported that council has been working closely with the police department in an attempt to remove unlicensed and unregistered vehicles occupying borough streets.Amid continued complaints from multiple borough residents, council has agreed to begin closely monitoring complaints and issues with their current trash hauler.Under the current contract, Advanced Disposal, with offices located at 2690 Howertown Road in Northampton, provides residential waste and recycling services to Weissport.Borough Secretary, Jillyan Sterling said, "I have spoken with the operational management at Advanced and they have always been more than helpful."Residents in attendance pointed out that their interaction with the crews performing the waste collection has been less than polite. In fact, two members of the audience stated that the vehicle driver was "rude."Mayor Jonathan Troutman pointed out that "trash collection is tonight, let's see how it works tomorrow morning and go from there."Solicitor Michael S. Greek encouraged Sterling and council Vice President Arland Moyer to make sure that all communications to the waste hauler appear in writing from the borough so that "there is a paper trail" if problems persist or are not resolved. In other news, on the heels of the police department ticketing multiple vehicles, Sterling advised council that she has been in contact with borough code official Duane Dellecker in regards to the information received regarding people living in a recreational vehicle on Prospect Street.
