Opera house cited for noise infraction one year ago

The Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement recently cited a Jim Thorpe entertainment venue for excessive noise nearly a year after the alleged offense.

According to the Oct. 7 citation, music was heard beyond the Mauch Chunk Opera House property line, 14 W. Broadway, on Oct. 10, 2014.Vince Degiosio, producer of events at the opera house, said the venue had its liquor license in escrow at that time due to previous fines from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board."We are getting a lawyer and are planning to fight it," he said recently. The opera house put its liquor license in safekeeping in September 2014 to avoid potentially losing it for too many noise violations. That lasted until March 13, when the PLCB approved Jim Thorpe Borough's request to have its own noise ordinance take precedence over the state.A PLCB spokeswoman said the agency couldn't give out any information other than what was in a press release sent last Monday. The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge, who can impose a penalty ranging from $50-$1,000 for a minor offense, or up to $5,000 for a major offense. The judge could also impose a license suspension or revocation.
