Heritage Center to celebrate 300 years of history and more

Western Pocono Community Library's Heritage Center will hold an Expo of "one-day-only" exhibits from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at the library.

The library will celebrate over 300 years of history with exhibits, storytelling and re-enactments.According to Carol Kern, executive director of the library, there is something for every member of the family.The event is marking William Penn Day, and Pennsylvania's early history.Exhibits include:• A visit from William Penn and learn the story of Native Americans through exhibits, beading demonstrations and dance.• Abraham Lincoln will pay a visit and guests can tour a Civil War Encampment.• Inventor Thomas Edison will be there to demonstrate his phonograph.• Antique automobiles including a Model T Ford and a vintage police car portraying the "Mayberry RFD" car.• Exhibit of memorabilia related to President Abraham Lincoln.• An exhibit that tells the story of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a man who was unable to walk across a room unassisted, yet became president.The Western Pocono Community Library is located at 131 Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville.The event is free to the public.The center preserves and promotes the local history of the area. Collections include World War II memorabilia, John C. Mills and local schools and businesses, as well as New Jersey Zinc.A permanent collection is located in the old library on Route 209 and Bond Lane, the center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
