The future workforce

The classrooms of Panther Valley High School were transformed into career opportunities on Friday as a number of area business men and women visited for the school's third annual Career Day.

Students had the opportunity to choose from a number of visitors based on their interests and sat in on sessions about a variety of careers.Jennifer Jones, a teacher at Panther Valley High School, explained that the event is a daylong session throughout the entire school and provides students with a glimpse into what careers are out there in the hopes of building interest.Visitors for the day included people in the fields of massage therapy, information technology, business, medical assisting, surgical technology, flight nurse, public relations, banking, criminal justice, Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission, public defender, adult and juvenile probation, manufacturing, athletic training, physical therapy, Career Link services, real estate, freelance writing, nursing, website design, careers in armed services, culinary, television/journalism, radio, organic farming, interviewing skills, cosmetology and Lehigh Carbon Community College.Jones explained that the school's transition team, which consists of guidance counselor Timothy Grazio and teachers Jones, Brent Reabold, Frank Karnish and Courtney Delazio, determines career opportunities for the day."We try to be as diverse as possible and cover as many areas as we can," Jones said. "There is also a buzz that is generated, and people often communicate to us what they would like to present. We try to appeal to professional graduates from Panther Valley as well."
