Library showcases art

Artwork at its finest.

Over the years, that's exactly what visitors who attend the Palmerton Area Library's annual art show have come to expect. This year's Art Show and Lunch was no different, as the event once again showcased a solid collection of works, according to library Director Diane Danielson.Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, the ninth annual Art Show and Lunch featured 58 paintings on display in the Knights Gallery upstairs in the library, Danielson said. Of those, 15 were sold. The library keeps 20 percent of the selling price during the show, while the artist receives 80 percent, Danielson said. She said the event represents the library's top fundraiser of the year."The turnout was great, with over 125 people attending," Danielson said."This has become a signature event for the library that people look forward to attending as a nice break from the boredom of the winter months."The winner of the People's Choice Award was Mary Anne Shafer from Palmerton, with her painting titled "Abandoned."For more information on the library, call 610-826-3424, or visit
