Fighting the odds to make the Carbon County United Way a reality was the theme of the first Carbon County United Way Awards Dinner, held at the Lansford AMVETS.

Several business and community leaders were praised for their efforts by William Schwab, local president and master of ceremonies.Schwab noted, "We accomplished something important here. When other people said we would fail, a group of us got together and pulled it off."
