Carbon write-in votes will be certified Friday

Ties exist among Republican candidates for committeeship positions in six Carbon County municipalities according to the tabulation of votes cast in the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 20.

According to GOP bylaws, 109 committee positions were scheduled to be filled by Republican voters. In some cases, where there were no candidates on the ballots for those positions, write-in votes were the order of the day.The county's election board authorized therecanvassing of votes when it met on Friday, May 23. Certification of the vote totals is pending theresolution of the ties, which will be settled by a process to be determined by the elections board at a meeting scheduled for noon Friday in the elections office in Jim Thorpe.The Republican Party bylaws call for committee members to be elected on an at-large basis with a designated number of representatives in each municipality, as follows: 16 in Penn Forest Township; eight each in Towamensing and Franklin townships; seven each in Lehighton, Jim Thorpe and Palmerton boroughs and Mahoning Township; five in East Penn Township; four each in Lansford, Nesquehoning, Summit Hill and Weatherly boroughs and Lower Towamensing Township; three each in Kidder Township South and Packer Township; and two each in Banks, Lausanne and Lehigh townships, Kidder Township North and Beaver Meadows, Bowmanstown, East Side, Parryville and Weissport boroughs.In areas where there were candidates on the ballot, those results were reported in the Times News election coverage on May 21.A breakdown of the Republican write-in votes by municipalities is as follows:Banks Township Christopher Moro and Terrance Schwendeman were both elected with one-write in vote each.Beaver Meadows Ann Marie Leonard and James G. Leonard were both elected. Ann Marie Leonard received five write-in votes and James Leonard received one write-in vote.Bowmanstown Pamela J. Leiby was elected with two write-in votes while a tie exists for the other committeeship. Norman A. Engle Jr. and Sandra Kuntz received one write-in vote each.East Penn Township Timm Berger was elected with five write-in votes. A tie for two positions exists between David Heffelfinger, David Mantz and Mark Beavers. They received one write-one vote each.Franklin Township Thomas Chew, Bart Blakesley, James Bestider and David Bradley were all elected. Chew received four write-in votes, Blakesley, two write-in votes, and Bestider and Bradley, one write-in vote each.Jim Thorpe Steven Perdie was elected with two write-in votes. A tie for six other committee positions exists between Alfred Luedtke, Doren Perdie, George Albert, Michael J. Sofranko, Rose Wernett, Colin O'Shaughnessy, Frank Lauth, John Patrick Dunne, Michael Shorten, Tim Popek, Diane Luedtke, Tim Benyo, Karen Lauth, Nicholas Goldberg and William Mullen. Each received one write-in vote.Kidder Township Margerite Green and Michael J. Curry were elected with five write-in voters and four write-in votes, respectively.Lansford Jack B. Soberick, Marley Geusic and Ronald B. Hood Jr. were elected with one write-in vote each.Lehigh Township John Capposela and Jill Redash-Caposella were elected with two write-in votes each.Lehighton James Walp, Duane Dellecker and Barbara Dellecker were elected with three write-in votes each.Lower Towamensing Township Jean Papay and Gerard Madden were elected with two write-in votes each.Mahoning Township Todd Koller and Steve Sofranko were elected with four write-in votes and three write-in votes, respectively. A tie for two other positions exists between George Stawnyczyj, Matthew Ehrig and William Schwab. They received one write-in vote each.Nesquehoning Daniel A. Angst was elected with six write-in votes. A tie exists for three positions between Roy Angst, Tom Ouly, Joe Steber and Shawn McArdle. They received one write-in vote each.Packer Township Tom J. Gerhard, Sue Ann Gerhard and Gerard Grega were elected. Tom J. Gerhard received two write-in votes and Sue Ann Gerhard and Grega received one write-in vote each.Palmerton David Nothstein, Richard Nothstein and Justin Kuneck were elected with one write-in vote each.Parryville Ralph Washburn and Jason Galloway were elected with three write-in votes and one write-in vote, respectively.Penn Forest Township Thirteen people were elected via write-in votes, joining two persons who were on the ballot. The party has 16 committee positions in the township. Elected via write-in votes were Frank J. Manole Sr., 5, Robert A. Salerno, 3, Donald Kearney and Carole A. Kearney, 2 each, and Debbie Manole, Denis McCaig, Greg Needham, Heidi Boese, Horace Woodside, Joseph Cummings, Lee Marzen, Rich Flacco and Rustin Paul, 1 each.Summit Hill Sharon Chapman was elected with one write-in vote.Towamensing Township A tie exists for eight committee positions among nine candidates who received one write-in vote each. They include Tom Newman, Elaine Dennis, Kurt R. Fisher, Tim Himmelwraight, Gary Matson, Robert Youngkin, Darlene Yeakel, Karl Rolappe and Susan Debski.Weatherly Michael K. Fulton, Michael Bellizia, Richard Stefanick and Stephen Kew-Goodale were elected with one write-in vote each.
