Schuylkill Sheriff hopeful arrested

A candidate for Schuylkill County sheriff has gotten himself in hot water with the law.

According to State Police at Schuylkill Haven and court docket paperwork, Patrick M. Reynolds, 46, of Branchdale, a state constable, has been charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and giving a false testimony to law enforcement, after he allegedly pointed a gun at another person. The incident occurred just after noon on Wednesday at 181 N. State Road in Reilly Township, Schuylkill County.Troopers said that Bradley Blumenschein, 35, of Loysville, Pa., who is employed by Richard and Associates Inc., Enola, responded to the above address to repossess a 2007 Ford Edge. Once on the property, he made contact with a few of the residents and informed them that he had an order from Susquehanna Bank to repossess the vehicle because of late payments. As Blumenschein was backing down the driveway to position his truck to hook up the Ford Edge, Reynolds showed up and confronted him.Reynolds drew a handgun and pointed it at Blumenschein, troopers reported. On Thursday, troopers interviewed Reynolds, who provided a written statement, saying he did not draw a handgun. During the course of the interview, he changed his story three times, reports state.Reynolds later admitted to WNEP Newswatch 16 that he did point a gun at Blumenschein.Charges were filed on Thursday at District Magistrate Judge Christina E. Hale's office in Frackville because a district judge was not available at District Judge Carol Pankake's office in Tremont, where the preliminary hearing will be held.Troopers said that the investigation continues.Reynolds, a Republican, was Democratic incumbent Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph Groody's main opponent in the upcoming general election. The other candidate, who is a write-in, is suspended Gilberton Police Chief Mark Kessler. Kessler is best known for his YouTube videos that are laced with profanity and scenes of him shooting guns.Reynolds is suspending his campaign because of the charges, even though his name will still appear on the ballot this upcoming Tuesday.
