A quiet protest of the Taft-Hartley Labor Law closed most of Panther Valley's coal operations today.

The men reported to work as usual and then, as though by unspoken agreement, went back home from Nesquehoning, No. 8, No. 10, and Lansford operations. The Carey-Baxter-Kennedy stripping job was also closed.This is the first hard coal shutdown in protest of the labor curbing law.What will happen tomorrow remained a matter of conjecture. However, union officials said there had been some talk of a General Mine Committee meeting to order work tomorrow.
