Polk Township resident Bob Beers told the Polk Township board of supervisors that he picked up litter on Dotters Corner Road that filled four large garbage bags. A large amount of the garbage were beer cans and vodka bottles. He contacted the Pennsylvania State Police and asked if they could be fingerprinted to determine ownership of the litter. He was told it would cost about $500 to run for prints and they wouldn't do it.

Beers said three bags of garbage revealed names and he turned that information over to the state police who said they will follow up. Beers would like the public to know that if they pick up litter and trash along the roads and names are found inside, please turn the names into the police because they will pursue it.Raymond Fitzpatrick was sworn in for a year as a fire police officer for the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, and received a certificate of appreciation at the meeting.The board approved the following, 3-0:• to donate $100 to the Monroe County Youth Field Day which will be held Sept. 7• the residual tract planning waiver request and planning module and subdivision plan for the Jason A. Pioli, et al. minor subdivision plan, upon condition of a letter of approval from the DEP.• awarding the bid for installation of a precast bridge for the Dotters Corner Road culvert project to Pickarski Incorporated of Goldsboro at $157,866.40. Chairman Brian Ahner said he was told it would take a month to complete.• advertising for paving and seal coat bids HTY, Gerner Road and Blue Mt. Court.Chairman Ahner, who is also roadmaster, reported:• that a short piece of Hell Hollow Road was removed and replaced; removed a few trees along the roadway by Camp Harlem because of some sight issues; removed 20-25 trees on Dotter's Corner Road; the township's International truck's rear end is out and an estimate of repairs is $2,000. He said the 1996 body is getting rough because steel bodies don't hold up with salt. The truck has 40,000 miles. It could cost $4,000 to be fixed and painted. He is looking for more quotes.• that he got another estimate for pressure washing and two coats of stain for the salt building for $3,400 from JJJ Martin LLC of Nazareth. He had the aerial equipment needed. So far he has four estimates.• that a resident reported having a few close calls at the intersection at Mertz Road and requested a two-way stop be placed there. Township solicitor James Fareri said the township would have to do a traffic study before erecting a stop sign. Township engineer Russell Kresge said he would take care of that.• there is a leak on the roof on the back garage and needs repairs in the near future. The estimate is around $10,000.Supervisor/secretary Nancy May reported:• the township received a letter from the Monroe County Planning Commission that it will be doing traffic counts from April-October. Residents who would like a traffic count done may make a request.• the board is thinking of ways the township might participate in the 250th Chestnuthill Township Anniversary celebration.• that solid waste permits are going fast. Also, there have been reports that people are abusing the drop-off and advises residents that if they see any kind of abuse to please report it.Aaron Keller, assistant fire chief from the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company reported:• it responded to 14 emergency calls in the month of April.• members received the second round in the three hepatitis shots they are to receive. The third and final shot will be given in five months.• the fire company's thanks to Ruthann Toner, township secretary for her help with the PEMA paper work• Camp Trexler opens June 16Gerald Zurat, township zoning and codes officer reported:• there were 34 permits issued in April• five permits are pending• he conducted 12 inspections• the office received four formal complaints and two verbal complaintsThe supervisors and CJER representatives will attend the township Planning Commission meeting on May 14 at 6:30 p.m.Discussion took place concerning the sewage enforcement officer getting calls and responding to them without going through the township first. The board feels he should be contacting the zoning/codes officer first. Ahner said they should try to get this resolved by the next meeting.
