Halloween parade to become afternoon event

The 42nd annual Lehighton Area Halloween Parade will be an early afternoon event this year.

Julie Harris, chairman of the Lehighton Area Halloween Parade Committee, said the parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, as scheduled, but will start at 2 p.m. Usually it is held in the early evening. The start time had to be moved to accommodate the Lehighton Area High School homecoming events.Harris also said she received word that the Lehighton Area High School band will not be participating in this year's parade."We moved the parade to accommodate the high school kids," Harris said. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m.Harris said the date and time of the parade was set a year ago, but the committee was unable to navigate around the schedule that the high school then set.Despite the last minute time change, she said the parade committee was able to book five bands. Among them are the Perseverance Jazz Band, Wind Gap Drum & Bugle Corps, Hobo Band, and Bethlehem Bag Pipe Band.Registration forms for the parade are available at the following locations:Larry Markley Insurance, Carbon County Music & More, Lehighton Municipal Building, Jim Thorpe National Bank (Lehighton branch), Zimmerman's Dairy and Dance With Kim.The parade is run entirely on donations. Harris said donations can be mailed to:Lehighton Halloween Parade, P.O. Box 241, Lehighton, PA 18235.
