From automotive service specialty, to cosmetology, to cake decorating.

Indeed, the well-roundedness of Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students was on full display at the District 11 SkillsUSA Championships.A trio of Northern Lehigh High School students were among those to display their talents at the event, held earlier this year in the Allentown Fairgrounds AgriPlex.Two of those students, Yajaira Alvarez and Alyssa Lancsak, came away with gold. Alvarez took first place in Cosmetology, while Lancsak took top honors in Cake Decorating.A third NL student, Alexander Sheridan, placed second in Automotive Service Specialty.Lancsak said she had to make a two-tier cake, 9 and 12-inch cake, an 8-inch layer cake, and six cupcakes."I learned how to become a better cake decorator, and that cake decorating does take time, and lots of decorating," Lancsak said. "I felt good that I would win, and took my time."Sheridan said his primary task was to be able to identify automotive parts and tools. He also had to measure brake rotors, brake drums, and pass or fail inspections."I went in there, and gave it my all," Sheridan said.
