Lehighton police have charged Robert Lee Neff, 48, of 433 White St., Summit Hill, with theft of failure to make required disposition of funds received, theft by deception and theft by unlawful taking.

Police noted that between January 2008 and January 2012, Neff, being the treasurer of Lehigh Fire Co. No 1, stole over $64,000 from the fire company's account by writing checks to himself or to "petty cash,"Of the $64,000, three certificates of deposit totaling $39,000 was transferred to the checking account.
