Learning how to escape from a fire

Members of Towamensing Twp. Vol. Fire Co. (standing) Colton Snyder, Austin Lesko and (kneeling) Capt. Ryan Snyder, show Towamensing Elementary's Miss Hummer's life skills students and Miss Mack's MDS IU Kindergarten through third grade students, what to do in case there is a fire. They explained to them that they should feel the door and determine if it is cold or warm. If it's warm they shouldn't open it. If it's cool, then they can open it and crawl out so they are closer to the floor and not inhale a lot of smoke. The firefighters also talked to the students about smoke detectors, the importance of a designated meeting place outside the home in case of a fire, learning the special phone number of 911 and to Stop, Drop and Roll if their clothing catches fire during Fire Prevention Week.
