Bloodmobile results

For the first time in several Miller-Keystone Blood Center community blood drives in Palmerton, the goal of 75 registered potential donors fell short, as only 70 people donated. In all, 68 units of blood were collected.The following donors reached various gallon levels: David Huszar, 13 gallons; Mary Elizabeth Cyr, 10 gallons; Garry Mack, 8 gallons; Timothy Beltz, Richard Bobal and Lisa Hawk, 6 gallons each; Robert Borgia and Patricia Johannes, 5 gallons each; Dennis Bonser, 4 gallons; Mildred Kistler and Brian Wanamaker, 2 gallons each; William Gallagher, 1 gallon. There were four first-time donors.Palmerton is fortunate to have more volunteers than many nearby communities. This enables it to have over 30 people who make reminder calls to potential donors in advance of the bloodmobile date, plus set-up, canteen and donor aides at the bloodmobile. There will also be a M-K blood drive at Palmerton Area High School on Monday, Nov. 7, for students and staff.Community supperA free community meal will be served from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 356 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. All are welcome for a free meal and fellowship.Trick-or-TreatTrick-or-Treat night will be held in the Palmerton Borough from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26. Residents are reminded to have their porch lights lit if they want to participate. Parents should keep a watchful eye on their children crossing the streets, as well as drivers watching for children who may dart out in the street.Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, will again be open to greet children with goodies, coffee, and hot chocolate.Trick-or-Treat night in the Towamensing area will be from 4-6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31.
