IU district's new principal from Tamaqua

Paula Hromyak, Tamaqua, was appointed principal of Maple Avenue Campus of the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit School District by the IU board at its monthly meeting, which took place Monday evening at the school in Norwegian Township. She replaces James Monaghan, who has accepted employment elsewhere.

Hromyak's salary was set at $75,000 per year effective Aug. 8.The board also accepted a number of resignations as follows:Dr. William Davidson, Pottsville Area School District, who served as the board's chairman; Ashley Thompson, speech and language therapist; Barbara Merwine, school nurse; Heather Fenstermacher, special education teacher; Dauphne Christiansen, speech therapist; Hope Bubeck, occupational therapist; Amy Ryder, speech and language therapist; Eileen Puglia, speech therapist; Melanie Lehocky, speech therapist; Magaret Popalis; speech therapist; Dianna Shutt, teacher aide; Mary Anne Alisauckas, teacher aide; Jessica Carl, teacher aide; Beth Croneberger, teacher aide; Christine Whitaker, teacher aide; April Rusnak, hearing interpreter; and Jennifer Landis-Hoy, part-time practical nursing instructor.The board approved day care rates for the 2011-2012 school year, full-time, all day, $120 per week; full-time, a.m. session, $60 per week; and full-time, p.m. session $60 per week.Teachers recalled from furlough status were, Matt Gianneli, Allison Lesher, Janelle Siket, Melissa Troutman, Matthew Grosser, Christopher Olsen, Timothy Zelonis, Jill Wulf, Coleen Cannon and Ashley Hess.Teacher aides recalled from furlough were, Beverly Stine, Janet Cooke, Margaret Palladino, Antoinette Purcell, Cynthia Patton, Carrie Brown, Jennifer Weigley, Megan Madenford, Antoinette Hughes, Catherine Brown, Michelene Smith, Heather Carjaval, Tina Ilsley, Angela Kroh, Judyann Stine, Cecelia Weyand, Nicole Horn, Danielle Heckman, Alissa Hoffman, Laura Reed, Gloria Frehafer, Michelle Stone, Shari Phillips, Glenda Kershner, Sarah Helman and Aimee Zimmerman.Other personnel action included: Steve Malek, Strausstown, hired as a GED instructor at $28.50 per hour effective July 1; Justin McClure, Kaska, Blythe Township, promoted from part-time to full-time music teacher at $42,297 per year; Karen Lightcap, Ashland, hired as practical nursing instructor at annual salary of $50,950; and Jennifer Reeves, Pottsville, hired as a special-education teacher at $47,950 per year.The board is seeking to hire a new auditor as Jones and Company, Pottsville, resigned. The board welcomes proposals for auditing services for the IU unit and employees health and welfare trust.Accepted was the proposal from Edwin L. Heim Company, Harrisburg, for the domestic hot water project at the Maple Avenue Campus for $165,100.The board entered into contracts to provide Title I services to nonpublic students with Blue Mountain, Mahanoy Area, Minersville Area, North Schuylkill, Pine Grove, Pottsville, Saint Clair and Schuylkill Haven school districts.Catapult Learning, LLC, of Newark, N.J., was hired to provide Title I services to the nonpublic and private schools of participating district members for $85,975.93.The postsecondary budget for 2011-2012 school year for the two technical centers was approved at $1,404,104. Tuition for the practical nursing program was increased from $11,973.75 to $12,360 effective July 1.
