Lansford men charged in two local burglaries

Two Lansford men have been arrested regarding burglaries that occurred this week in Summit Hill and Coaldale.

Kevin James Kassak, 25, of 41 Leisenring St., has been charged with committing a burglary at the Switchback Mini Mart in Summit Hill either Sunday night or early Monday morning.Kassak and Brandon Michael Snyder, 23, of 520 E. Bertsch St., are both being charged with a burglary Monday night at Pappy's Mini Mart, 113 E. Walter St., Coaldale.The two were identified after being captured on video at several convenience stores, including some where they allegedly made efforts to cash in the stolen tickets.Kassak was arrested by Summit Hill Police and arraigned early this morning before District Judge Bruce Appleton of Palmerton. He was lodged in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 percentage bail.Snyder was charged by Coaldale police and arraigned before District Judge Stephen J. Bayer of Tamaqua. He was placed in Schuylkill County Prison. Coaldale Chief of Police Tim Delaney said Kassak will be charged and arraigned sometime today on the incident regarding Pappy's.Summit Hill Chief of Police Joseph Fittos said the burglary at the Switchback was discovered at 2:58 a.m. Monday by a Morning Call delivery person. He said a rock had been tossed through a window of the mini mart to gain entry to the premises. Stolen were lottery tickets and cigarettes, he said.Kassak has been charged by Summit Hill Police with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, retail theft, and criminal mischief.Delaney said the Pappy's Mini Mart burglary happened at 11:05 p.m. Monday. A side glass door to the business was smashed for entry. Lottery tickets were taken.Snyder was charged with two counts of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, criminal mischief, and receiving stolen property.Fittos said the arrests were the joint efforts of police departments in Summit Hill, Coaldale, Lansford, Lehighton, and Jim Thorpe.He said efforts were made to redeem the stolen lottery tickets in mini marts in Lehighton and Jim Thorpe.He said it doesn't appear that Snyder was involved in the Summit Hill burglary.Arresting officer Scott Cramer of the Coaldale Police Department said he received "many calls identifying the two suspects" after photos of them taken from video were released to the news media.He said in the affidavit, "Both individuals were asked to come in for questioning and both confessed to the (Pappy's) burglary."
