Two vehicles were damaged in a driveway-highway collision on July 27 at 12:13 p.m. in Polk Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said the accident happened when Emily M. Steffen, 23, of Nattleborough, Mass., driving a 2004 Hyundai Elantra, was turning out of a private driveway to travel east on Whitey B Drive, and turned into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado operated by Robert A. Derco, 22, of Brodheadsville. The latter was westbound on Whitey B Drive and was unable to stop in time. His vehicle was struck in the left front by the Elantra.

State police at the Frackville barracks are investigating an incident whereby someone illegally dumped several bags of household waste at a site in East Union Township.

Police said the incident was discovered July 28 off Old Mill Road, west of Green Mountain Road.

Police said several items inside the bags will assist them in identifying the person who left the items along the roadway.

The theft of an undetermined amount of jewelry from a Polk Township home is under the investigation of state police at the Lehighton barracks.

The victim is Ralph Lucchese, 3 Upper Green Hill Road in the township.

Police said someone burglarized the home between 2 p.m. July 25 and 10 p.m. July 26 by gaining entry through a front door. The jewelry was removed from a bedroom in the home before the thief left the scene undetected.

Pocono Mountain Regional police are investigating an attempted burglary at a Monroe County business.

Police said on Monday, July 25, about 2:45 a.m. officers were called to the Mount Pocono Plaza, in Mt. Pocono. Employees of the McDonald's Restaurant reported hearing glass breaking at one of the stores in the plaza.

A further investigation revealed two windows of Brother Bruno's Pizza were smashed by the use of lids from trash cans.

A 17-year-old female from Schuylkill Haven escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash July 26 at 9:05 a.m. on State Rt. 813 in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks did not reveal the identity of the driver but said she was traveling westbound in a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan when the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole on the north berm, coming to a halt facing northwest.

No one was hurt in a one-vehicle crash July 27 at 9:38 a.m. on Interstate 81 in Foster Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at the Frackville barracks said Megan Leymeister, 26, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1996 Honda Accord northbound when it traveled off the western berm and struck a guide rail.

The vehicle required towing from the scene.

Police said Leymeister will be cited for Motor Vehicle Code violations.

State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating the theft of a wallet that contained $130 in cash from an unlocked vehicle.

Police said the victim is Antoinette Pologruto of Saylorsburg.

The incident happened between 7-8 p.m. July 27 while the victim's vehicle was parked at the Vanbuskirk-Haney Community Park, Anchorage Road, Ross Township, Monroe County.

The wallet was removed from the glove compartment of the vehicle.

A Pocono Summit man was injured in a one-vehicle crash July 27 at 7;10 a.m. on State Rt. 94- in Tobyhanna Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said John Vacolla, 18, was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, after the crash. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Police said he was driving a vehicle west on Rt. 940 when it veered off the right side of the road, struck a rock and a tree, overturned and burst into flames.

A man from Orefield escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash that happened after he avoided striking a deer on Orchard Road in Lowhill Township.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said Chad L. Gray, 32, was northbound in a 2011 Nissan X-Terra when he swerved the vehicle to the right to avoid striking the deer. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree with the right side of its front end, resulting in disabling damages that required it to be towed from the scene.

State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating an incident whereby a vehicle parked in a private lot in Monroe County was damaged by an unknown vehicle.

The incident was reported at 1:36 p.m. July 23 at a private parking lot in Ross Township.

The victim, Katherine A. Hanley, 53, of Effort, told police the unknown vehicle struck her unattended 2011 Kia Sorento in the left rear, causing minor damages.
