Good job, Eldred

Although I had to be out of town for business when Nestle announced it was withdrawing its application at the Eldred Township Board of Supervisors' meeting, I have no difficulty imagining the emotion that filled the room. That emotion comes from countless hours from many people who worked so very hard. The planning commission was bombarded with questions, concerns and observations at every turn.

This effort was welcomed as innumerable reviews of Nestle's application in association with Eldred's zoning ordinance were performed in order to issue our comments and/or submittals. The planning commission's counsel, Michael A. Gaul, with King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul helped us to shape our research and offer a formidable submittal to the zoning hearing board. More good work came from the township engineer Brien Kocher, with Hanover Engineering Associates, in identifying concerns with the application as it pertains to our zoning ordinance.Public sentiment was the driving force in this endeavor. Our planning commission always felt we were supported. Public turnout at planning commission meetings, board of supervisors' meetings, and zoning hearing board meetings was extraordinary. In Nestle's announcement at the June 8 meeting, they specifically reference, "It is clear to us that the community in Eldred Township does not believe the process around this project worked in a way it was intended and that many of you have concerns about this project. We want you to know we hear you." To all Eldred Township residents - job well done!It is my hope that our highly engaged community continues to remain focused on our township and that as a planning commission we will continue to seek input from all levels and have a bias toward action - making Eldred the jewel of the county.Robert BoileauChairman, Eldred Township Planning Commission
