Driver cited after Luzerne crash

A driver was cited following a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 3 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Green Mountain Road and Oakridge Road, in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

State police at Frackville said Christopher M. Veach, 32, of Shenandoah, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, was northbound on Oakridge Road, exiting a private property exit ramp, when he failed to stop as he turned left onto Green Mountain Road.He pulled into the path of a 2000 Pontiac Montana operated by Vicente Santos Alvarez, 27, of Hazleton, who was westbound on Green Mountain Road.Alvarez attempted to stop by applying his brakes but could not and the front of his vehicle hit the driver's side of the Cavalier.After impact the Cavalier spun 180 degrees counterclockwise and slid across both lanes before striking a curb. It then jumped the curb and came to rest in a grassy area.Veach had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton. Alvarez was not injured.Damages were severe to the Cavalier while the Montana was driven from the scene.Troopers cited Veach.
