About 70 Tamaqua residents came out to receive donations during the Tamaqua Volunteer groups second monthly Tamaqua Community Drop-Off and Free Giveaway held Saturday.

Donated items included clothing, toys, tools, small appliances, electronics, furniture, recliner, televisions, desks and even a large 50-inch television.

In addition, 72 used dressers and end tables were donated by the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the giveaway.

"Any type of clean, smell-free donations are greatly appreciated," said event organizer and group president Andrew Leibenguth. "The giveaway isn't limited to low income residents and anyone with a 18252 zip code can come and receive items."

The next drop-off and giveaway day is Saturday September 22. Donations can be dropped-off between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the storage facility next to Schickram's Car Wash (Rose Street) in Tamaqua. All items will then be given free to Tamaqua residents via a simple lottery-style drawing.

Any Tamaqua resident wanting to receive donations is encouraged to be there by 9 a.m. for the donation giveaway scheduled at 9:15 a.m. In case of rain or chance of rain, the event will be moved to Sunday, September 23.

For more information, message Leibenguth on Facebook or call (570) 668-1234. Leibenguth is thankful for all the donators and volunteers, as well as Thorn's Cycles for donating the use of the storage area for the event.
