Two persons sustained what police said were moderate injuries in a crash Sunday at 7:31 a.m. on Route 209 in Franklin Township, The crash occurred about 2,500 feet west of Elm Street. Police said said Jacob J. Bearer, 20, of Palmerton, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo (shown at right) southbound when the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin clockwise on the icy roadway, cross the center of the road, and strike a 2004 Saturn Vue operated by Krystyn M. Keegan, 30, of Lehighton, who was northbound at the time. Police said the passenger's side of the Monte Carlo struck the Saturn headon in the northbound lane of travel. Police said Bearer was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed. A second crash occurred at 9:30 a.m. along Pine Run Road also involving black ice.
