Temporary Carbon County Election Board members appointed

Two temporary Carbon County Election Board members have been appointed.

On Friday, Carbon County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Roger Nanovic appointed Jerry Dotter of Jim Thorpe and Myron Tarapchak to serve on the board for 2019 since two of the three commissioners, who make up the election board, cannot serve because they are up for re-election.

Dotter will serve in Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein’s place; while Tarapchak will serve in place of Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard. Commissioner William O’Gurek, who is not seeking re-election, can remain on the board during the election year.

The county salary board, on Feb. 7, set the two men’s compensation at $70 a day.

The Carbon County Election Board’s responsibilities include overseeing that the primary and general elections are conducted properly; and work with election Director Lisa Dart on election matters that arise during the year.
