Tamaqua student makes her mark

Imagine painting for only one full year and already having your art on display.

Emily Genery, a third-grade student at the Tamaqua Elementary School, doesn’t have to imagine because it’s a reality. Wednesday marked the opening night of her gallery at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center. Genery’s work will be on display throughout the rest of the month.

“I like painting landscapes and trees,” Emily said. “I like nature and the outdoors.”

Emily started painting around the last new year by doing a Bob Ross party. She said she was kind of a natural when she picked up painting, but she always liked to draw. Her favorite painting on display was titled “Sunset Forest” and was purchased before the night was over. “I like the sunset and all of the trees and everything,” said Emily of her creation.

Emily paints weekly and specializes in oil landscapes. She enjoys giving her work to others. “She’s constantly making them and giving them away to family, friends and teachers,” said her mother, Dara. “We don’t have many of them at home.”

Emily’s grandmother paints and they plan to paint together in the future. Aside from painting, Emily is involved in cheering, yoga and many other activities.

“I’m excited to have my art on display here,” Emily said.
