Summit Hill man faces burglary, assault charges

A Summit Hill man is facing charges following an incident that occurred Aug. 16.

At 11:51 p.m. on that date police were dispatched to the 100 block of West Fell Street for a fight.

Upon arrival police found Daniel Schaller, 41, standing on the sidewalk yelling obscenities. Police said Schaller had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his mouth area, slurred speech and his eyes were red and glossy.

He also had fresh blood on his shirt and was bleeding from his ear, neck and knuckles. He said he was assaulted by another man, Ricky Christman, who was at the scene. Christman had several contusions to his face, and a swollen eye. Christman said earlier in the day he and Schaller were at a party at a friend’s house and got into a fight. Christman said he left the party and went home.

Schaller later left the party and went to Christman’s home, entered it without permission and assaulted him, according to court documents. Christman requested medical treatment. An EMS unit was called to the scene and transported him to St. Luke’s — Miners campus in Coaldale. Christman provided a written statement to police.

On Aug. 18 Schaller was requested to come to the police station and give a written statement. He declined, police said.

Police said Schaller has been charged with burglary, simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness.
