Two student fights at Jim Thorpe Area School District football games this year have resulted in police citations, Superintendent Robert Presley told the school board Wednesday night. Future offenders, Presley warned, face suspension from school activities and a ban from future games.

Presley said the district has already followed through on both consequences for those involved in the two incidents.

“Fighting on school property will not be tolerated,” Presley said. “You will be suspended from school activity just like you would if you had a fight during the school day. You will also be cited by the police, and we have done that for the two incidents we have.”

Students who continue to fight at games also can be banned from attending future football games entirely, he said.

“Please come to the game, show your sportsmanship, cheer your team on and have fun,” Presley said. “If you choose to do otherwise, you will be talking to the police and the magistrate.”

Presley did not identify the students involved, where the incidents occurred or provide additional details about the circumstances of either fight.
