Tamaqua Area School Board moved ahead with a one-year contract with a national facility and planning construction firm.

The board approved the no-cost contract with SitelogIQ to perform a districtwide facility assessment that will give the district a road map for capital project planning and maintenance.

The contract is at no cost to the district with the caveat that the district allow Tamaqua Area’s aggregated data in a statewide facility study to be presented to lawmakers.

The firm is lobbying Pennsylvania to resurrect the state’s PlanCon Program, which reimbursed districts for major building renovations and construction.

Sound system

The board also approved the purchase and installation of a new sound system for the Tamaqua Elementary School.

The district chose Event Staging Inc. of Orwigsburg, which is a COSTAR vendor, for the project, which should not exceed $25,000.

The sound system is original to the building, and the stage is being used for more robust activities, such as productions and plays, Kenneth Dunkelberger, chief operations officer, said.

This would be for a full-fledged sound system with all new wiring and mounted on the ceiling, he said.

Other

The board in other business approved these items:

• An agreement with Penn State Hazleton Campus for the use of the high school baseball field at a negotiated price, contingent upon submission of necessary documentation.

• An agreement with Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank, Reading, as a host site for product distribution.

• The second reading of Policy No. 918, Title I Parent and Family Engagement.

• Homebound instruction for one elementary student.

• An affiliation agreement with Moravian University for student practicum experience.

• The resolution identifying and authorizing the superintendent to sign electronic agreements with the state Department of Education.

• The business administrator to approve repository sales and process payments and other routine items.

• A resolution to vote for a list of candidates for the Pennsylvania School Board Association board of directors.
