Nesquehoning council

Nesquehoning Borough Council last week discussed or acted on the following items:

• Granted conditional approval for the Kovatch reverse subdivision plan.

• Approved a commitment of $27,670 for a grant match requirement to the DCED Greenway, Trails and Recreation program grant application for Johnson Park with a request to the recreation commission to share half of the match requirement.

• Appointed RoniSue Ahner as a code enforcement officer in the borough.

• Approved a resolution for the property maintenance fee schedule. The fees are $55 per hour for work completed by the outside code enforcement agency, $35 for in-house personnel and $25 administrative fees for code enforcement.

• The next neighborhood watch meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday at the borough hall.

• Mayor Sam Kitchko read a letter form the Juvenile Court Judges Commission announcing that the Nesquehoning Police Department is in full compliance of court protections in the federal juvenile justice and delinquency prevention act of 2002.

• For the month of April, police collected $2,957.86; issued 35 citations; responded to 450 incidents, including 12 crashes; and drove 3,477 miles while on patrol.

• Council is nearing sending its trash contract out to bid. The current contract, which is held by Tamaqua Transfer, ends in September.

• The next recreation commission meeting is 7 p.m. on Monday at the recreation center.
