Next school year, the Pleasant Valley High School will have its second assistant principal joining the staff.

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved hiring Ariella Mease for the assistant principal position. She is joins Jeremy Byrd, who was hired as an assistant principal in January to replace Jamie Rockwell.

In March, Co-Principal Jonathan Ayre accepted a new position in the school district as supervisor of curriculum and instruction. That left the high school with one principal for next school year - Brian Boylan.

Mease’s new position will be effective July 1. She is currently a science teacher at Phillipsburg Middle School in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Her new salary will be $83,100.

“Welcome aboard,” said School Board President Susan Kresge. “We look forward to having you.”

Beaming with smiles, Mease said after the meeting about her new position, “I’m really excited.”

The school board also approved two new hires for Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

Andrea Filachek will be joining the staff as a learning support teacher. This is a new position. And Kaitlyn Everson will be joining as a school counselor. She is replacing Carley Hartzell, whose assignment switched in April to the high school. Both Filachek and Everson will begin their new jobs on Aug. 21 at Step 1 with a salary of $56,842.

The next school year will bring three assignment changes.

Sixth-grade teacher Thomas Dudley will be moving from the middle school to the intermediate school to become the Dean of Students. Renee Moore, a reading teacher at PVES, will become the Dean of Students at the school. Both changes are effective Aug. 21. Effective July 1, Brian Morgan, a school counselor for the Bears Academy, will return to his assignment at the high school as a counselor.

Additional personnel items include:

• Change to current assignment - three food service employees are moving from part time to full time positions. Maria Gonzalez and Marcie Holderman are at PVIS, and Izabela Moscicki is at PVHS;

• Supplemental contracts: athletic - Jessica Holmes, cheerleading, varsity head coach, $6,834;

• Supplemental contracts: non-athletic - Cub Academy: April Rice (Kresge), Kristen Gschwend, Jacqueline Hardy, Erin O’Farrell, PVES teachers, $92 per day;
