Carbon County Right From the Start, SHINE and Lehigh Carbon Community College will host a free Kindergarten Boot Camp series for parents with children ages 4 and 5 who will be entering kindergarten in the 2019-20 school year. Participants must live in Carbon County.

Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 7, 14, 21 and 28 and April 4 and 11 at the Jim Thorpe School District Administration Building, 410 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe.

The program aims to help students and parents in the areas of science, mathematics, sensory development, motor skills, group participation and reading activities.

Parent education topics include school readiness, temperament, early literacy and math, social and emotional development, parenting tools, nutrition, safety and parent involvement in school success.

The class is funded through a grant from the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
