Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, discussed or acted on the following items:

• Awarded the printing of the 2019 election forms and ballots to Reliance Graphics Inc. of West Chester, who bid $14,575.

• Approved the 2020 Carbon County Community Transit/LANta state operating financial assistance resolution certifying operating assistance in the amount of $265,921 and matching funds of no less than $39,888; and adopted the local match certification resolution certifying the required matching funds will be secured.

• Approved the renewal of Rapid Response Inc. of Northampton to serve as the county hazmat/spill response contractor.

• Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard reported that Eric German, organizer of Pipes for Paws, delivered a donation of $4,000 to the animal shelter and recognized the staff and the public for the support.

• Gerald Strubinger of Jim Thorpe, a commissioner candidate, approached the board to ask if the county has any land that it could build a solar park on to help bring in new revenue. The county said the idea hasn’t been really brought up but it may be something to look into in the future.

• Retirement: Keith F. Ramsay of Jim Thorpe, WIOA fiscal manager/CareerLink fiscal agent, effective Dec. 2.

• Resignation: Crystel L. Carr of Lehighton, domestic relations specialist II, effective Sept. 20.

• Employment separations: Scott R. Reynolds of Nesquehoning, and Pierre. J. Guichardan of Drums, both effective Sept. 9.

• Hire: Zachary M. Morgan of Moosic, county caseworker I, children and youth, effective Sept. 23.

• Karen M. Yaich of Jim Thorpe, from second deputy, to acting first deputy, treasurer, effective Sept. 27.
