Two members of Panther Valley School Board expressed concerns about conference costs that teachers, administrators and other school personnel attend.

Board member Roy Angst voted "no" on this month's list of conference requests, which involve 12 people attending 12 different events. "We're spending money foolishly," Angst said.Although Irene Genther agreed with approving the request list, she requested that a monthly breakdown of the total expenditures be given to theboard.This month's list, which was approved by a 7-1 vote, totals $2,825.Last month the board approved 23 conference requests, involving 29 people. That list passed unanimously, and Angst expressed the importance of teachers and personnel continuing their education.Genther expressed concern that the conference requests might be getting too expensive.In other personnel business, the board agreed to allow Superintendent Dennis Kergick to take two courses at East Stroudsburg University (one spring session, one fall session) at a cost of $454 each.At the conclusion of the courses, Kergick will have obtained his doctorate.The following resignations were approved:• Dora Foderaro as speech therapist effective March 27.• Elaine Sebelin, instructional aide, effective at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.• Patricia Kattner, cafeteria worker, effective at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.The board appointed Lisa Bauder as cafeteria server at the high school (3.5 hour position) at the current contract rate of $11.85, effective Feb. 13, for the 2014-2015 school year.Jennifer Heaney and Daniel Heaney were appointed to the list of elementary school chaperones effective immediately.Several after school kids clubs were approved by the board. A minimum of 10 students will be needed for each class. Students are being charged $20 for each class.Teachers will be paid from the money collected from the students, community donations, and the box top elementary fund.The clubs run from Feb. 17 through April 10 and the instructors are:• Independent STEM Activities with Art, Gail Christopher-Lazar.• Class Act Drama Club, Stephanie Clark.• Flight School Science, Cecilia Enama, with Amber Forster, substitute.• Learning, Discovery and Inquiry, Autumn Gilbert.• Intramurals, Donny McGorry.• Multi-Media andLiterature, Tonia Miletto.• Fables Book Talkand Activities, Melinda Penberth.• Cooking Up Math, Nicolette Scheitrum.
