A Coaldale man was Tasered by Tamaqua police on Nov. 22 after fleeing an attempt to arrest him on an outstanding warrant.
At 3:43 a.m. officers were at Fegley's Mini Mart, Center Street, when a small group of people gathered on the sidewalk outside the Tamaqua Diner. One male began crossing Center Street, saw the officers, and yelled to another man, who had started to walk north. The second man was known to officers as Ricky Charles Nelson, 37, of 129 E. Phillips St.A few hours earlier the Schuylkill County Adult Probation Office had advised police of an outstanding warrant for Nelson.The officers approached Nelson, who began running away. After a short foot chase the officer told Nelson to stop or he would use the Taser. Nelson kept running. The Taser was deployed, and Nelson fell to the ground. He initially gave police his brother's name, but then admitted his identity and complained of elbow pain.He was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, in Pottsville, for X-rays, which showed a small fracture to his right forearm. He was treated, then committed to the Schuylkill County prison on the warrant.Nelson will also be charged with resisting arrest.
