A speeding stop by Nesquehoning police has led to drug charges against the driver.
The incident occurred at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Oak and Catawissa streets. Chief Sean Smith was monitoring traffic and clocked a vehicle going 40.9 miles-per-hour in a 25 zone. Smith initiated a traffic stop and the driver was identified as Thomas C. Mohn, 20, of Mohrsville, Berks County.While speaking with Mohn, Smith smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Mohn was asked if he had any marijuana in the car. He then grabbed a backpack from the rear seat and pulled out a multicolored glass bowl with burnt resin and an unmarked prescription bottle with green vegetable matter in it.A consent search was then obtained for the vehicle but no other drug items were found.Mohn was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding. Mohn was told charges would be filed and he was released.
