A Port Royal man was cited by Tamaqua Police on Jan. 24.
Officers were on patrol at 4:38 a.m. when they noticed a man sleeping in a vehicle in the area of Elm and Water streets. The car's headlights were on and the engine was running. The man behind the steering wheel was identified as Bo Reed, 23, of Port Royal. Reed was mumbling incoherently, stringing together words and numbers. When questioned, he had no idea as to why he was in Tamaqua, and said he was supposed to be building roller coasters in Wildwood, New Jersey. He smelled strongly of alcohol. He was given, and failed, field sobriety tests and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale for blood tests. At the hospital, he asked for his attorney and was told asking for a lawyer constituted a refusal to take the test, as listed on the DL-26 consent form. Reed said he wasn't refusing to take the test, but couldn't due to his allergies to metal, plastic and iodine. As hospital staff members researched such allergies, Reed repeatedly asked for his attorney. He was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for operating a vehicle with an invalid inspection sticker, as the inspection on his Buick ran out in October 2015.After refusing the blood test, Reed was transported to his girlfriend's home on Penn Street in Tamaqua.
