Ten Band performs at Mauch Chunk Opera House

The Ten Band have certainly done their homework. They know Pearl Jam classics forward and backward.

Formed in 2003, they are regarded as the longest touring Pearl Jam tribute in the world. The Ten Band performs at the Mauch Chunk Opera House at 8 p.m. Friday."We are all products of the '90s," bassist Todd Kaczorowski says. "Brian (Ten Band lead guitarist) and I spent most of the early '90s writing original music influenced by a lot of what was happening at that time.""I can fondly recall my first time listening to Pearl Jam's debut 'Ten' album and thinking, 'Wow, this is a big change in what is happening, musically.' ""After life took us in some different directions in the late '90s, we decided it was time to get back together and play music," he adds.Singer Nick Rhodes teaches cyberspace math by day, and by night, he channels Eddie Vedder's instantly recognizable voice. He does both remarkably well. The Ten Band continues with other classic "Ten" hits like "Even Flow," "Jeremy," and "Alive," seeming to almost play the music as Pearl Jam would have performed it live.A common end to a show is "Yellow Ledbetter" from their album, "Lost Dogs," which Pearl Jam fans know is a live show essential.Their energetic and enthusiasm on stage resonates with the audience in an unforgettable way.Paragon Ragtime OrchestraThe Paragon Ragtime Orchestra performs at Jim Thorpe's Mauch Chunk Opera House at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The world's only year-round, professional ensemble re-creating the syncopated sounds of early musical theater, their performance recalls the opera house over 100 years ago with silent cinema and vintage music - America's original music. This special Halloween presentation benefits the Mauch Chunk Historical Society and returns the opera house to a century-old era. It aces the original scores of ghost-themed silent comedy films in its hilarious "Haunted Hollywood" production. Each film, for which each score was intended, is integral to the PRO's brilliant musical production. So in some madcap scene when Buster Keaton gets himself hit over the head with a mallet, an instrumentalist in the orchestra plays an appropriate sound with the appropriate instrument, in exact accordance with the score. The synchronization between the orchestra and silent movie is remarkable.Paragon's charismatic founder and maestro, Rick Benjamin, is just as entertaining between the movies. The PRO came into being as the result of his 1985 discovery of thousands of turn-of-the-century orchestra scores once belonging to Victrola recording star Arthur Pryor. In 1988 the Orchestra made its formal debut at Alice Tully Hall - the first concert ever presented at Lincoln Center by such an ensemble. In addition to its worldwide concert hall, university and festival appearances, the PRO has acquired a considerable following both here and abroad through its radio programs on The New York Times' WQXR, National Public Radio, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and the Voice of America networks. This performance is supported by the ArtWorks program of the National Endowment for the Arts.Ticketsare available on the Opera House website at
