Nesquehoning Borough Council

Nesquehoning Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its monthly meeting.

• Approved advertising a water EDU ordinance.

• Acknowledged that the New Columbus Fire Company was awarded $26,716 for a new floor in the fire house and other needed upgrades. The grant is from the Local Share Account program.

• Council President Bruce Nalesnik announced that the street projects that were planned for this year will be rebid early next year after council voted to table the projects last month. The project bids came in higher than expected.

• Nalesnik also said that the streets department is patching potholes in the town while the asphalt company is still open. If someone sees a pothole that should be patched, they should call the borough with the location. Pictures of the holes are welcome.

• Approved the purchase of an Echo Power Pruner from J.C. Small for the sewer department. The cost is $650.

• Approved the New Columbus Park phase 1 project with the amended list of work items. It includes infrastructure work like paving walkways and basketball court improvements. The amended cost is $125,000.

• Council announced it is working on the 2027 budget with its various departments.
