Permanent jewelry boutique opens Slatington storefront

A new boutique has opened its doors in downtown Slatington, offering customers a unique and personalized experience in the growing trend of permanent jewelry.

Hometown Spark Permanent Jewelry, owned by Courtney Corona, recently celebrated the grand opening of its storefront at 20 Main St.

The shop specializes in custom-fitted jewelry that’s welded closed without a clasp, symbolizing lasting connections and memories.

“I grew up in Bath and now live in Palmerton, and I wanted to stay local in the Lehigh Valley to serve my community,” Corona said. I’m the heart and soul behind this venture. I’ve always loved the beauty industry and making women feel beautiful.”

Corona, who holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and previously worked in municipal government, said she decided to pursue her passion after realizing she wanted a different career path.

She spent two years researching permanent jewelry and is entirely self-taught, learning the technique through videos and by trial and error.

The boutique features over 100 chains and charms in a variety of materials, including solid gold, gold-filled, sterling silver, enamel and beaded options.

In addition to permanent jewelry, Hometown Spark offers a clasped “Build Your Own Charm Bar,” allowing customers to customize their bracelets or necklaces with more than 50 unique charms.

Permanent jewelry — which has seen a resurgence in popularity in the U.S. since 2017 — is marketed as a way to commemorate milestones, celebrate relationships or simply accessorize in a worry-free way, as the pieces don’t require clasping and are less likely to be lost or damaged.

Hometown Spark also continues to host private home parties and pop-up events throughout the region and in-store gatherings.

Inside the boutique, Corona has carved out a retail space for other local, woman-owned businesses.

Featured artisans include Wendy Hoffman (all-natural body care), Kathy Michael (homemade soaps), Cheynne Azzalina (polymer clay earrings), and a line of one-of-a-kind flannels.

Corona first launched her business from home, hosting pop-ups and private events before opening the Slatington location in May.

She is joined by store manager Morgan Altemose.

The boutique will celebrate its two-year anniversary on July 12, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The event will feature a buy-one-get-one-half-off chain promotion, a visit from River Rock Bean & Brew, and in-store vendors including Bloem Acres Flower Bar and a Trucker Hat Patch Bar.

Store hours are Thursday through Sunday, noon to 8 p.m., though hours may vary based on event scheduling.
