CCTI promoting student health care programs

Donna McClain, a health medical instructor and adviser for the Health Occupations Students of America at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute, shared information on HOSA with the Joint Operating Committee on Thursday night.

HOSA is a national student organization that promotes career opportunities in the health care industry and enhances the delivery of quality health care. As part of the program, students participate in competitive events that challenge their knowledge, skills, and leadership in various health science areas.

“This year, we took 26 students to the HOSA competition, accompanied by myself and two parent chaperones,” McClain explained.

“Students competed either individually or in groups. We’re proud to announce that one student earned ninth place in phlebotomy, and one group achieved 10th place in the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) competition, an impressive accomplishment.”

According to McClain, eight students successfully graduated from the program, demonstrating strong dedication and academic achievement.

Of those graduates, seven students earned their Certified Nursing Assistant credentials, and six students passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam.

“We are also pleased to report that 100% of our graduating students plan to continue their education at the collegiate level, pursuing careers in various health care fields,” McClain added. “These outcomes reflect the hard work of our students, the support of our faculty, and the continued relevance of our career and technical education programs in preparing students for success in the health care industry.”
