Trick or treat
Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison has set the borough's trick or treat night as Oct. 31. Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m.Residents willing to treat the ghouls, goblins, princesses and superheroes are reminded to light up their property with porch and/or exterior lights.Meet the artistThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host an artist meet and greet, featuring Michael Delmonico, on Nov. 5.Delmonico is a photographer who began his craft while in college. Traveling throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, his images include portraits, landscapes, concerts and fine art. His most current project features levitation and surreal images, creating a vivid scene of bewilderment and fascination.Hours for the meet and greet are 6:30-8:30 p.m. The art center is located at 125 Pine St.Bucket booksThe Bucket List Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 4.The November selection will be "Slaughterhouse 5," written by Kurt Vonnegut. The book tells the tale of Billy Pilgrim through flashbacks, including his time as a World War II prisoner of war during the bombing of Dresden, time spent in an alien zoo and his travels through time. Vonnegut masterfully weaves together reality and fiction, using his own World War II experiences to flesh out his characters.New members are always welcome. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion, Holy Baptism and the observance of Reformation Sunday.Also on Sunday, Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m. and the Allegro bell choir will rehearse at noon.Next week's activities include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir practice is at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir meets at 7:30 p.m.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Kevin Duffy-Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include the bell choir performing the anthem. Sunday school classes will begin at the end of the junior sermon.
