Celebrates 98 years

Wanda Wester, resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, is celebrating her 98th birthday.

She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Lansford. The family later moved to a farm in Andreas. She attended Andreas Country School with her four brothers and five sisters.Wanda married Earl G. Wester. They had five sons together: Joseph, Al and Michael of Tamaqua; Earl of Richmond, Vermont; and Daniel of Miami, Florida. She has 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Wanda worked most of her life in the restaurant business. In 1952 she and husband Earl bought the White Diner in Tamaqua. They owned and operated that diner for 20 years before selling in 1972 and moving to Ocala, Florida. Ten years later, they moved back to Pennsylvania and lived in Lehighton.Her hobbies included: cooking, gardening and home decorating. She was very active at St. Peter and Paul's church in Tamaqua until her later years. She also liked to visit the Atlantic City casinos.
