Tamaqua driver cited for DUI after hitting 2 pedestrians

Tamaqua police have filed charges against Steven Marsicano, 48, of 223 N. Lehigh St., Tamaqua, in connection with a Nov. 16 crash.

Marsicano was driving a silver Jeep eastbound on Rowe Street at 10:45 a.m.At the same time a young woman and a 20-month-old child were crossing the intersection at Rowe and Lehigh streets.The two pedestrians were already well into the crosswalk when Marsicano turned left on to Lehigh Street, knocking them both to the ground. He failed to stop and continued driving north on Lehigh Street.As ambulance personnel were tending to the victims witnesses told police the driver was now out of his vehicle standing at the intersection of Lehigh and Anderson streets.Officers went to the intersection and spoke with Marsicano, who was swaying unsteadily on his feet.He admitted to taking two Xanax pills about two hours earlier and denied striking any pedestrians. When asked where his car was parked, he said he “didn’t know.” The Jeep was found parked on Anderson Street.He was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center- S. Jackson St., Pottsville for blood tests.After receiving the results of those blood tests, police charged Marsicano with driving under the impaired influence of medication.
