A one-car crash Tuesday at about 5:45 p.m. on Route 145 in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, claimed the lives of an elderly Walnutport couple.

Township police, contacted this morning, said neither the details of the crash nor the names of the deceased, were available, although reports indicate the man and woman died after their car, traveling southbound, struck a retaining wall at 1223 Riverview Drive (Route 145).Residents in that area reported hearing the crash and subsequently found the car had crashed just north of Walnutport Borough. Witnesses said it was dark and raining at the time.Reports indicated the man was driving the vehicle. He and the woman were reportedly pulled from the vehicle by paramedics, who attempted CPR on the front lawn of a nearby home.The Northampton Ambulance crew was dispatched to the scene, however, township police indicated at about 6:10 p.m. that the couple had died. Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek was summoned to the scene.Lysek's office indicated the deceased were in their 80s.Their names were not released as officials were still notifying family members of the accident.
