Mayor wants office moved to police station

Lehighton’s mayor has asked to move his office from the borough’s municipal building to the police station.

Borough council on Monday heard the request from Mayor Clark Ritter, who said he’d like to move his office up to the police station.

Ritter would look to utilize the multi-purpose room as his office, a request Councilman Ryan Saunders said he wouldn’t have a problem granting.

Councilman Donnie Rehrig asked Ritter about how many times he’s actually used his new space, to which Ritter estimated between 15 to 20 times.

Rehrig said he would first like to see a cost analysis done before he would approve Ritter’s request.

Saunders reiterated that he would have no problem with Ritter moving his office.

Rehrig said he would first need to see an estimate, as well as where the money would come from.

Ritter settled into his current office next to borough manager Steve Travers in April.

Previously, Ritter had been meeting with visitors in the borough’s police station.

In January 2022, council, on a 4-3 vote, agreed to allow Ritter to use the office next to then borough manager Nicole Beckett. Council members Darryl Arner, Autumn Abelovsky, Lisa Perry and Saunders were in favor. Councilman Joe Flickinger, Rehrig, and council President Grant Hunsicker were opposed.
